ICC In The Community
ICC has good working connections with the local primary schools. We regularly have visits from primary schools working in connection with our students in PE or through Design Technology and the STEM project.
Students within the school community are offered a variety of educational and oversea trips such as attending the theatre or going further a field to Battlefields. These trips are part of their curriculum, we also offer extra curricular activities to enrich their learning experience, from cartoon drawings, ICT to PE sports fixtures.
Our Choir with the Chagnossian Drummers have good community links with the local area and perform each year at Care homes, Gatwick Airport, occasionally Crawley Hospital. Our choir performed on pop icon Rihanna’s song Towards the Sun which was the soundtrack to Dreamworks movie Home.
Students’ art work is on display in the community throughout the year at the at the Hawth and a selection of art displayed at Langley Corner Doctors Surgery, the art is frequently updated with new material.
Every year students participate in our annual sponsored roundtrip walk known as the Sarah Robinson Commemorative Walk from the College to Tilgate Park to raise funds for local charities.
Community Garden
The ICC Community garden is now up and running thanks to donations from Tesco ‘Bags for help’ ,BAM and several companies located in West Sussex.
You may have seen the Community garden taking shape located on the left grass verge as you arrive in to the school grounds. Staff and helpers begun work over the May school holiday digging, building and erecting several vegetable and flowers beds.
The community garden is to be planted, maintained and sustained by staff and students within the school community. Students will have the opportunity to gain experience of growing food to eat, along with studying the variable nature of plants.
New to the garden are benches where staff and students are able to find a little peace and quiet.
Fundraising / Charities
At Ifield Community College we feel strongly that supporting charities is an integral part of school life and that it is important for us all to think of those who are in need. We are determined to do our best in raising as many donations as possible knowing that they have a significant impact on the local community and society as a whole.
Students and staff at ICC are regularly involved in fundraising for various charities throughout the year. Our Student Council holds meetings with the school tutor representatives to think of innovative ideas about how to raise money for these events.
In the month of July 2016 we did our very first sponsored charity walk named ‘The Sarah Robinson Commemorative Walk’ to celebrate the 50th anniversary of when The Sarah Robinson School and Ifield Grammar School amalgamated. The whole school participated, we walked to Tilgate Park and back, a total of 8.3 miles/13.5k and 19,000 steps. The sponsored walk is an annual event that students take part in to help raise funds for local charities.
