Introduction

“If individuals understand themselves and their opportunities, and have developed the right skill set, they will be able to take their next steps; but real life is rarely as simple as this. So the framework is also rooted in learning theory emphasising the development of autonomy, personal agency, self-efficacy beliefs, and cognitive understanding through constructed experiences and social interactions. It recognises the importance of enabling children and young people to create a personal narrative that locates their career wellbeing in the wider context of their personal, social, political, economic, and environmental wellbeing.”
(CDI Framework, January 2020)

All learners at Ifield Community College will participate in a careers programme that enables them to:

ICC Compass Evaluation

“All ICC students are entitled to impartial careers education, information and guidance which will enable them to develop the knowledge and skills they need to make successful choices, manage transitions in learning and move into further education and work.” (Options and Pathway Coordinator at ICC)

“Effective careers education and guidance support pupils to continue in education or training on leaving the school. The guidance is highly valued by pupils and they appreciate the careers advice provided for Years 8 and 11 on days which have a dedicated PSHE focus. As a result, pupils are aware of the wide range of career opportunities available to them. Visits to local universities are helping to raise the aspirations of pupils from Year 7 onwards. As a consequence of the school’s effective support and guidance, the vast majority of pupils leave school to pursue education, employment or training opportunities.” (Ofsted, 2018)

Careers Newsletter

As a school, we believe it is essential that our students have access to high-quality, reliable information to support their career planning and future aspirations. To enhance our careers programme, we have invested in a Careers Newsletter, which will be shared fortnightly with our school community.

Each edition features a Job of the Week, an Employer Spotlight, a University Spotlight, and the latest Labour Market Information. Students can explore topics that interest them by clicking on the embedded links for further information. Every edition also includes an AI-generated podcast, providing a convenient summary of the key content.

We are delighted to introduce this valuable addition to our careers programme. It will broaden students’ awareness of the wide range of opportunities available to them, helping them make informed decisions and equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to build successful futures.
