Safeguarding in Education
“The school has effective safeguarding systems in place. The safeguarding policy is detailed, with all requirements fully covered. Key responsibilities are suitably identified, including appropriate links to the local authority. Safeguarding is a strong feature of the school. Pupils understand safeguarding practices such as keeping safe online and looking after their health.”
Ifield Community College is committed to safeguarding, promoting the welfare and safety of all students. We want to make sure all our students are safe in school, at home, on line and in the community. We strive to ensure that consistent and effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, students and staff at school. Our staff have an important role, working together with parents and guardians, to ensure that our students are safe and secure and to promote their personal safety and wellbeing.
We have policies and procedures in place to deal effectively with child protection and safeguarding issues, which include tackling radicalisation and extremism, together with recording and monitoring processes. All our staff have received Prevent training. All staff undertake relevant safeguarding training when they start at the school and receive updates as appropriate. The training is monitored, and comprehensive records are kept by the DMS.

Information sharing
As a part of our commitment to safeguarding students we may share relevant information with other professionals in accordance with the statutory guidance
All concerns are passed through members of staff who are trained as ‘Designated Child Protection Officers’ in school in compliance with the HM ‘sharing of information’ guidance July 2018. Staff are required to report any causes of concern to the school safeguarding team. Referrals are logged and monitored to make sure that they are followed up appropriately.
ICC is in partnership with Sussex Police working on Operation Encompass, this has been designed to provide early reporting to schools of any domestic abuse incidents that occur in which a child was present, ordinarily resides at the incident location or with an involved party. We know that children can be significantly affected through witnessing or being exposed to domestic abuse.
A nominated member of school staff, known as a Key Adult, will be trained to liaise with the police. At Ifield Community College our key adults will be Mr Laundon, Miss Baverstock and Mrs Clarke. We will be able to use the information that has been shared with us, in confidence, to sign post to appropriate help or ensure the relevant pastoral support is available should it be required by a child and /or their family.
We ensure the best support available to our students, and we believe this is extremely beneficial for all those involved.
Safer Recruitment
To promote a safe environment for students, Ifield Community College employs a strict selection and recruitment policy which includes all statutory checks on staff and regular volunteers including Enhanced DBS (disclosure and barring service) checks.
