Entry Requirements:
This is a literacy based subject, so students must have gained a grade 5 in one of the following literacy based subjects:
Grade 5 in GCSE English Language or
Grade 5 in GCSE English Literature and
Grade 5 in Religious Studies or Philosophy
Course Overview:
Religious Studies is an interesting and diverse subject which develops an understanding and appreciation of religious beliefs and teaching provides a critical approach to the consideration of moral and philosophical issues. Students study the theories of philosophers such as Plato, Socrates, Aristotle and Aquinas to contemporary discourse from Bertrand Russell and Richard Dawkins. An integral part of the course is to apply theories to contemporary issues of importance for example Euthanasia and Business Ethics.
Students are expected to have an interest in current affairs and to use an enquiring critical and empathetic approach to the study of religious, political and legal events and ethical developments in society. GCSE Religious Studies is not a pre-requisite for this course.

Exam Board: OCR
A two year course with three exams taken at the end of the second year.
