Curriculum Intent
The Computer Science and ICT department is a forward-thinking and dynamic department where we share a love for all things technological. We believe that all pupils at ICC have the right to rich, deep learning experiences that balance all aspects of computing.
With ever increasing innovations in technology playing such a significant role in modern society, we aim to equip our students with the necessary skills to be safe, active participants in the digital world. This will fully prepare them for future life experiences.
We strive to teach our students the principles of information and computation; how digital systems work and how to apply this knowledge through programming. Building on this knowledge and understanding, students will become skilled in the use of Information Technology to create programs, systems and a range of content.
We aim to embed Computational Thinking skills and together with creativity, enable students to understand and change the world.
Our curriculum enables students to become effective users of technology who can:
understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science
- analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical
- experience to solve such problems
- evaluate and apply information technology to solve problems
- be responsible, competent, confident and creative users of Information Technology
We strive to provide a broad range of skills and practical hands-on experiences so that our students are better motivated and fully engaged. There will be ample opportunities for students to develop practical experience in script based programming languages, with the aim to confidently design, write and debug programs to solve non-simplistic problems.
Our curriculum is intended to provide a focus on developing resilient learners who think in a more logical way and can effectively solve problems.
